EPCOR Staff Making a Difference

EPCOR recognizes it is our responsibility as a good corporate citizen to help enrich our surrounding communities of residence and work. With staff members in many different states including Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma and Indiana, we encourage community volunteerism.

Recently Jeanne Curtis and Patsy Walsh volunteered at Thelma’s Kitchen in Kansas City, Missouri. Thelma’s Kitchen is the first donate-what-you-can cafe in Kansas City. A donate-what-you-can café is a café in which you simply pay what you can. Thelma’s Kitchen’s goal is, “to meet very real needs in our area for affordable food access and to gather people together for vibrant community life. When we serve together and sit and share a meal together, we begin to understand what it means to be community.” Thelma’s Kitchen prides itself in being a gathering place in which anyone and everyone is welcome.

Before Jeanne and Patsy could volunteer, they had to complete a one-hour orientation involving information about serving food, cleaning up, washing dishes, being a greeter and more! After orientation, they both volunteered their time. Jeanne shared, “it was fun, and we got to meet new people!”

Community involvement is very important at EPCOR and we are so proud of Jeanne and Patsy for going out and making a difference!
