Tristan Thompson is Senior Vice President and Payments Group Manager at UMB Bank in Kansas City, MO. There, he has responsibility for the overall strategy, delivery and execution of UMB’s Payments Product offerings. He manages a team with expertise in ACH, Wire Transfer, Check Services, ARP, Positive Pay, Lockbox, RDC, Cash Vault and Merchant services. Prior to his time with UMB, Tristan served as a manager within KPMG’s financial services banking practice.

When asked if there are any experiences that he’d draw on during his tenure with the Board, Tristan shared, “A recent experience on the board included a series of interactive meetings where we revised EPCOR’s 10-year vision and strategy. It was impressive to watch, provide input and be a part of a diverse group of individuals that has laser-focus on our members’ needs. Some of the best dialogues that day began when we challenged each other on various topics including the future of payments and forced difficult conversations. Going through this exercise reaffirmed the strong team of leaders we have supporting the association.”

Before accepting his position on the EPCOR Board of Directors, Tristan felt it was important to ensure he would be joining a group of individuals willing to accept new ideas and challenge the status quo. He went on to say, “I’m a passionate individual with a high desire to progress and grow whether it’s through a hobby, my professional career or organizations I serve. I’m excited for EPCOR’s future and the services we can provide, as I believe the US payments industry is in a pivotal time, going through extreme growth and change.” He further explained, “Organizations of all sizes are trying to figure out how to quickly adapt by leveraging existing assets and resources. I see EPCOR continuing to expand new and existing relationships with increased education options and ways for our members to tap into the payments expertise of the EPCOR staff.”

Personally, he is passionate about his family and enjoying experiences with them. He and his family love the outdoors and traveling to new places. Professionally, Tristan gets the most enjoyment providing the tools and guidance to watch others grow and succeed. He explained that he has always been a believer in this quote from Harry S. Truman, “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”
